The start of a journey.

The start of a journey.

I love to cook. Pastas, steaks, grilling, cast iron, baking (sorta), it’s a huge joy I find in life that has the double benefit of sustaining life. I wish I could say I was always this way, but I never learned to do much more than boil pasta growing up (by choice) and not long ago I was exposing my young discovery of basic seasonings and frozen foods in videos to the world.

BUT, I want to be a better cook. I want to feed myself and my family better. I get a thrill out of the experimentation, the artistry that seems to live in the space of learning seasonings and combinations - and the feeling of getting a new thing right is one of the most rewarding feelings ever.

The problem is, once you get to a certain level of skill and experience, that reward cycle really stalls. You get just good enough to eat well and become dangerous, but you can’t master everything just yet. Some things weirdly just don’t seem to work out. Others aren’t quite as good as they should be.

A good way to kick the artist’s… or cook’s… block, as it were, is to share your experience with others. I process a lot by talking things out, and the exchange of ideas and feedback is crucial to growth.

That’s what this channel is all about. Documenting my journey as I aim to improve. Sharing the recipes that have worked well for me so far, navigating the scary culinary world as a picky eater and broadening my horizons, learning to perfect the things I’ve learned.

I don’t plan to be a chef or work in an industrial kitchen, this is about good old home cooking. I’m in this awkward stage to make videos where I’m not a beginner, but I’m also not an expert either. If you’re interested in coming along this journey, please join in - but be prepared for a lot of mistakes, too. That’s part of the fun!
